The Chevreuse valley
Listed as a regional nature park, the upper Chevreuse valley spreads hedgerows, ponds and millstone villages. La Madeleine Castle, in Chevreuse, dominates the valley from its promontory. Below, the Yvette winds along a marked path where you walk between old wash-houses and mills. The 30 engraved stones of the Petits Ponts trail punctuate a poetic walk, perfect for a countryside date together.
The Seine loops
In the northwest of the department, the Seine draws wide meanders between slopes and forests. Vaux-sur-Seine, Médan or the heights of Villennes offer fine panoramas. You can cycle the Véloscénie, walk to the Galiotte pond, enjoy a riverside guinguette lunch. A waterside department, often rediscovered with surprise.
Forests and artist villages
The Marly forest, a former royal hunting ground, and the Rambouillet forest make up superb woodland worlds. Montfort-l’Amaury, former home of Ravel and Victor Hugo, lines its sloping streets above the ponds. On Lyad, Yvelines members share their favourite paths, guinguettes and villages: it is up to you to find someone for the next loop in the forest.
